Trauma

Informed Practice

A trauma-informed approach reflects key principles that can be applied across multiple settings.

Outside the Box provides training that supports professionals to apply these principles in their work.

Being trauma informed is to:

  • Realise the widespread impact of trauma and understand the potential pathways to recovery.
  • Recognise the signs and symptoms of trauma in individuals, families, staff, and others involved in the system.
  • Respond by fully integrating knowledge about trauma into policies, procedures, and practice.
  • Actively Resist Re-traumatisation.

Resilience Informed Practice

Being resilience-informed is to:

  • Recognise individuals are part of a wider social environment and that support must be relevant to an individual’s cultural, social and economic context.
  • Place a person’s own experience at the centre of support, focusing on both the internal and external resources that sustain and promote growth.

Resilience and Regulation promote positive Recovery. These “R’s” are essential to practice. for promoting empowered individuals, families and communities.

Understanding these key components enables practitioners to work to be more attuned to individual needs and engage more effectively with them to connect them to the resources they need and strengthen helpful connections in their world.

  • Culturally grounded viewing healing as the restoration of identity.
  • Asset driven focussing on self defined well-being.
  • Supportive of providers in their own healing.

Healing centred engagement Reframes the discussion around trauma. It considers the dynamcs of social power and empowerment.

Through this lens services and organisations may more meaningfully engage and collaborate with those in their community to promte healing.

This provides a foundation for organisational transformation and growth that is explicity connected to the personal and community experience.

Training & Workshops:

  • The intersectionality of adversity, resilience, power and identity.
  • Shared meaning-making through collaboration & co-production for system change.

Identity Focused Practice

Identity is a product of internal reflections of self that are shaped by significant others and the environment around us.

Identity-focused Practice incorporates the Adverse Childhood Experience research and weaves in trauma-informed, resilience-informed principles. Allowing practitioners to use what the research tells us about bio-social-emotional development to work from an evidence-based position in order to promote healthy identity formation through the life course.

Practice shaped through the lens of identity formation is culturally responsive and understands the influence of the practitioner.
